The world’s first "Vagina museum" specializing in gynecological anatomy will open in London this week. This special museum was developed by Florence Schecter in the past two years. In the fund-raising construction, she hopes that through the establishment of such a museum, everyone will eliminate the "stigma" and raise everyone's awareness of the vagina and pay attention to its health.

Florence Schecter, founder of the Vagina Museum

Florence Schecter, who studied in the Department of Biochemistry, was originally a video creator on YouTube.

Once, when she was preparing to introduce 10 interesting animal vaginas in an issue, she suddenly discovered that people have very limited research on female sexual organs. In the past 25 years, there were about 364 studies on reproductive organs, of which only 8% were solely on vaginas. .

There is "The Icelandic Pallological Museum" in Iceland. Why can't I have a vagina museum?

The Penis Museum was founded in 1997 by the historian Sigurður Hjartarson, the Natural History Museum and Sex Museum. The venue is located in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The museum has a collection of approximately 280 penis specimens from 93 species of animals.

I know that the positioning of women does not only come from the sexual organs, but my vagina is also a part of me, and I cannot ignore it. My vagina screamed "Listen to me!" every month, and it would be strange if I denied its existence.

Therefore, she decided to establish a museum in London to explain the physiological structure of the vagina, menstruation and contraception from a scientific point of view, to display the anatomical exhibits of the vagina and related organs, and to depict the female reproductive organs in the form of artistic media, including paintings, music and literature.

In addition, the museum will also include a social perspective on domestic violence and the status of the vagina in different regions, as well as feminism and human records of the history of the vagina.

Starting from October 5th, the Vagina museum will be opened to the public in Camden, London. In order for the museum to better adapt to its educational and advocacy venues in the future, its brand image is very important.

However, for such a relatively special museum, it is not easy to have a brand image suitable for it.

Eliminating the "stigma" is the focus of the brand image design. Florence Schecter worked closely with the team of the design consulting company Passport in Leeds to carry out a comprehensive and systematic design of the Vagina Museum's brand image system.

"There are some challenges when engaging in design work of this nature," said Rosalind Stoughton, the head of design company Passport. "Because the name of this museum is easily stigmatized, it is impossible to include vulva or vulva in the brand in the actual design. The image of the vagina, because it will affect what the museum itself wants to convey.”

Unable to rely on pictures or icons to convey information in the LOGO, the design team turned its attention to the wordmark. "We bolded the word Vagina separately to directly highlight the subject matter," Rosalind Stoughton said.

After solving the expression form of the brand LOGO, another problem ensues one after another, which is the challenge of brand color.

Rosalind Stoughton said, “The first thing we think of is pink, because it represents beauty and also symbolizes women. The second thing we think of is purple, because purple is popular in the sex toy industry and more generally women’s products, but These two colors are not suitable for such a museum. Then I thought of red, but it is too violent and brutal, green and yellow are a bit uncomfortable, blue is too cold and boring... So we really don’t have too many colors can choose."

In the end, the design company Passport decided to open up the palette in the brand, which means that this is a completely unrestricted palette to express that everyone is unique, and the brand new visual language is no matter from the word mark. It is also color, which expresses this characteristic very accurately.

At present, various colors can be seen on the museum's website, social media, business cards and promotional brochures. For example, the favicon icon of the website, the color of the icon on each page is different.
